CALL FOR COVID-19 SPECIAL ISSUE SUBMISSION

Kenya Studies Review (KSR) editor invites submissions of original, previously unpublished article-length manuscripts for a special issue on COVID-19 and its impact on Kenya or Kenyans (from the motherland or in the Diaspora). Topics for this issue are varied in scope from conceptual, methodological, practical, Higher Education, to anecdotal accounts of lived experiences—social distancing. The title of your proposed paper should mention either “Coronavirus” or “COVID-19.”

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our journal, we accept submissions from a wide range of disciplines, but with a special focus on Kenya. If you plan to submit your work for our review, follow the guidelines presented below. Failure to adhere to these guidelines might lead to an automatic rejection of your work.

Research Article

    • Should include the following details in presented order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list)
    • Should be no more than 7000 words, inclusive of references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes

Commentary

    • Should include the following details in presented order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list)
    • Should be no more than 1000 words, inclusive of references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes.

Methodological or Field Note

    • Should include the following details in presented order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list)
    • Should be no more than 4000 words, inclusive of references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes.

Featured Reflection

Book Review

    • Should include the following details in presented order: title page; main text; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references · Should be no more than 750 words.
    • The Editor should be contacted before a book review is undertaken and submitted

Creative (Prose or Poetry)

    • Narrative (fiction or non-fiction) should include: title page and main text. · Should be no more than 5000 words. · Poetry (of any genre/or form) should include: title page and main text.
    • Should be 5-7 poems single-spaced and as long as “need be,” but no more than ten pages

KSR follows the APA Manual Style (7th Edition) in all matters of form. Any submissions that do not conform to these guidelines may be returned to the author before being considered for publication.

      1. Manuscripts should be submitted preferably as Word files (.doc or .docx), double-spaced, using a 12-point standard font size (preferably Times New Roman), and have one inch margins.
      2. Must include (a) a 150-to-250 words abstract and (b) a list of works cited, following the APA Style Manual bibliography guidelines.
      3. All images must be submitted as TIFFs or JPGs (or camera ready). For copyrighted images or texts, the author will be the responsible for securing permission to be reprinted.
      4. Use American English spellings and punctuation except if referenced source has used British style.
